Nadwa of Salon Nadwa And Day Spa

Nadwa Yono is the inspiration of Salon Nadwa and Day Spa in Novi, Michigan, founding the business in 1994. Her incredible story is one of a woman with a vision who shattered tradition and overcame obstacles to accomplish her goals. Her perseverance and determination created a multimillion dollar business.

Shattering Tradition
Yono immigrated to the United States at the age of seven in 1970. During her teenage years, there was an expectation by the Chaldean community that a good Chaldean girl should marry and be supported by her husband. If a woman worked, she was expected to work for a family business. Nadwa wanted a career.

With her parents and five brothers in opposition, Yono enrolled in beauty school. Her family was proud, but skeptical when she received her license in 1980. By 1991, she was working with celebrity hairdresser, Trevor Sorbie, and other famous stylists as an education at national shows and seminars.

Perseverance and Determination
Yono dreamed of owning her own business. To finance this dream, she approached nearly every bank in metro Detroit before she was able to get a loan. In 1994, she opened a 5,200 square foot salon and day spa in the Novi Town Center. The first few months were a struggle with ten employees and no customers. By year's end, Nadwa's perseverance and determination turned Salon Nadwa and Day Spa into an incredible success as Michigan's first largest full-service salon and day spa.

Nadwa believes that the key is education. She believes in continually educating her staff and her clients. In addition to Salon Nadwa And Day Spa, Nadwa is on the boards of the Salon Association, Modern Spa Association and Neill Quality College. She is frequently interviewed on television and the radio about fashion trends and tips. She also accepts public speaking engagements to encourage women to start their own businesses.
